ICMJE Authorship Criteria
IJOER follows International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) criteria for authorship, as well as COPE guidelines for ethical authorship practices.

1. Authorship Criteria
ICMJE Four Criteria
All authors must meet ALL FOUR ICMJE criteria for authorship.
1. Substantial Contributions
- Conception or design of the work
- Acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data
- Drafting or revising the work critically for important intellectual content
2. Final Approval
- Final approval of the version to be published
- Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work
3. Accountability
- Accountable for the accuracy and integrity of the work
- Willing to investigate and resolve any issues
4. Agreement to Publish
- Agreement to submit the manuscript to the journal
- Agreement to publication upon acceptance

Non-Author Contributions
Individuals who do not meet all authorship criteria should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section (e.g., technical help, writing assistance, departmental chair, funding sources).
3. Author Order
Determining Author Order
Standard Conventions:
- First author: Made the largest contribution to the work
- Last author: Senior/responsible author who supervised the work
- Middle authors: Ordered by level of contribution
- Corresponding author: Marked with an asterisk (*)
Requirements:
- All authors must agree to the author order
- Order should accurately reflect each author's contribution
- Changes to author order require unanimous consent
- Document agreement during submission process
4. Corresponding Author Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
- Manuscript submission to the journal
- Communication with editorial office
- Managing the revision process
- Coordinating author approvals
- Proof approval and final checks
- Post-publication correspondence
Additional Duties
- Ensure all authors meet authorship criteria
- Maintain records of author agreements
- Handle copyright transfer matters
- Manage publication fees if applicable
- Respond to reader inquiries about the work
- Address post-publication issues
Corresponding Author Eligibility
The corresponding author must be reachable throughout the publication process and for at least 3 years post-publication. They are responsible for ensuring all authors have reviewed and approved the final manuscript.
5. Authorship Changes

6. Authorship Misconduct
Prohibited Practices
- Ghost Authorship: Unacknowledged contributors who made substantial contributions
- Gift Authorship: Granting authorship to individuals who did not contribute substantially
- Guest Authorship: Adding prestigious names to increase publication chances
- Coercive Authorship: Forcing inclusion of authors against their will
- Denied Authorship: Excluding individuals who made substantial contributions
- Authorship Trading: Reciprocal inclusion of authors across papers
Consequences
- Immediate manuscript rejection
- Article retraction if already published
- Author sanctions and warnings
- Notification to author institutions
- Public notice of authorship misconduct
- Temporary or permanent ban from future submissions
Policy Enforcement
IJOER follows COPE guidelines for authorship disputes. All allegations of authorship misconduct are investigated thoroughly. Authors must declare during submission that all authorship criteria are met and that no misconduct has occurred.
